Natural Blue Halite Crystal in Sylvite, Intrepid Potash Mine, Carlsbad, NM
.   Going through my inventory of New Mexico minerals, I discovered 3 specimens of blue halite.  This is one of them.  It is a natural crystal of the halite in sylvite matrix.  These natural, uncleaved crytals are rare, the more so since the mine closed 5 or so years ago.   The crystal is a bright blue, translucent and beautifully zoned.   There is a tiny halite on the back of the piece.  2 1/4 inches long.   Halite crystal is 5/8 of an inch on longest side.  Hal
