    Description

The #10 Batter jug or measuring cup is seldom seen.  Created by McKee Glass of Jeannette Pennsylvania from 1931-1944 it has 3 types of measurements raise-lettered on the sides.
#1 Liquid Weight, #2 Pound Flour, Sifted, and #3 Cups and Ounces. This is very unusual and is not found many times as many measuring cups that were made.   Measures 5.75" tall and 5" wide at top. McKee made their jadite glass by mixing unsold and heated milk glass with unsold and heated green Depression glass.  The green glass contained Thorium salts which intensified the green color and thus carried over to the jadite.  McKee colors of opaque or what they called "Opal" glass were Delphite, Seville Yellow, Chalaine Blue, and French Ivory.  All were made in the same way buy mixing already made glass.  When I lectured on this I used this jug as an example because the milk glass line is evident.  This piece may be viewed on page 270 of Hazel Marie Weatherman's book, Colored Glassware of the Depression Era and twice in Sandra McPhee Stout's book, The Complete Book of McKee Glassware pages 191 as part of the #101 8 piece Kitchen set and page 197 as the #10 Quart Batter Jug.
