2ml Glass Jar Iwo Jima Beach Sand Japan World War 2 Marines Landing Site
On February 19th, 1945 U.S. Marines invaded Iwo Jima, Japan after the Island was bombarded.  The Japanese defenders dug into bunkers within the volcanic rocks.  About 70,000 Marines and 18,000 Japanese soldiers took part in the battle.  There were 36 days of fighting with nearly 7,000 Marines killed and 20,000 wounded.  Finally on March 26, 1945 the Island was declared secured.  It was one of the bloodiest battles in Marine Corps History.
In 2013 when I was still active duty in the Marine Corps, me and other Marines in my company flew out to the Island of Iwo Jima in Japan.
I then gathered some volcanic black beach sand in an MRE beverage bag and hiked up Mount S
uribachi.  It was a breath taking experience.
This is around the landing sites of Red 2 and Yellow 1 where the US Marines had landed.  My favorite movies about Iwo Jima are Flags of our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima.  If you have not seen it, it is worth watching and learning about the battle that took place during WW2.
I took some photos of the Island and where I collected the beach sand.  The photo with the dog tags are where the Marines put up the 2nd flag during the battle.
I'v only prepared 12 packages of sand in 2ml glass jars, nicely packed in a plastic bag and taped so that it does not
    get
    damaged
for shipping but I have a whole lot more sand.  Please let me know if you want to request more amounts of sand or in different containers.  I can ship this as a first class package and depending where you are will get there about 3-5 days  I have a video that I uploaded here
